About HPCC

HPCC is a voluntary, independent body run by and for its members. It was originally set up as a self-help group for users who were interested in getting more out of their Hewlett Packard Handheld and Portable Computers, hence the Club's initials. The club is still devoted to helping members get the most from their equipment (both HP and other makes) and to further the exchange of information and ideas on various technical topics of mutual interest. HPCC is not supported by Hewlett Packard or any other commercial organisation; its activities are funded and undertaken by its members.

Why a User's Group

Computer owners' manuals are always a compromise between providing the basic information needed by a new user and the often esoteric details needed by a computer wizard. Hewlett Packard has historically been one of the better companies in providing this balance, but user groups are still useful for providing non-obvious tips and tricks, without any corporate distractions or perceived bias.

Recognising that this problem existed in the United Kingdom, a group of dedicated HP users formed a User's Club in 1982, following an already successful formula.

Several years ago, we broadened our scope to include other makes. We are not run as a Technical Society, and the atmosphere and outlook of the Club are distinctly inclusive, with new members and ideas always welcome.

What can HPCC do for me?

Membership of HPCC is not a subscription to a computing magazine but rather a participation in a voluntary, member-organised club. The Club depends on members participating in the process of sharing knowledge and skills with other members and thus learning from others.

Many members and visitors have commented on the wide variety of interesting discussions, both technical and otherwise which take place both at club meetings, and also in Datafile, the Club's magazine.

With your participation, HPCC can provide:

If any of the above sounds interesting then perhaps HPCC might just be the answer to your needs. Do consider becoming a member - you will be assured of a very warm welcome.
